Meet Our Team
Carroll Fernald Owner
Before moving to Mount Desert Island 32 years ago with her family, Carroll was a real estate agent in Houston, Texas. She started her Maine real estate career in 1997, which included learning the ropes as a rental agent as well as a broker. She is a senior vice president with Legacy Properties Sotheby's International Realty and is a specialist in the markets of Mount Desert Island and surrounding areas. Knowledge of her community and market area, attention to detail, communication with her clients, and follow-through are Carroll's hallmarks.
Carroll is an active member of the Mount Desert Island community and is involved in a volunteer capacity with the Mount Desert Historical Society, Westside Food Pantry, and Harbor House Community Center . She has three grown children and ten grandchildren, and lives in Somesville with her husband, Tom in an historic old house. She is a passionate grandmother, gardener, cook, and traveler, when time permits.
Kate Weir Office Manager
Originally from Vermont, Kate grew up skiing/snowboarding, riding horses, traveling, and enjoying the outdoors. She attended Garrison Forest School in Baltimore, Maryland and graduated from Champlain College with a BS in Business. A summer trip to MDI turned into many repeats where she met her future husband. She dragged the 'boat guy' to Vermont where they had two children and she helped to found True North Wilderness Program; a wilderness therapy program for struggling teenagers. But the sea called her husband and they moved back to Bar Harbor full time in 2007. After taking time to raise their children, Kate started at Summer House in 2012.
Laurie Warden Rental Agent
With her background working as a recruiter in Human Resources, Laurie understands that the rental process is all about having a thorough understanding of what the family or individuals are looking for in a vacation rental here in this unique area of the country. She is well acquainted with the amenities of each home and enjoys sharing with you what each area around the island has to offer. This knowledge is invaluable to those coming to the Island for the first time or to those that return year after year.
Laurie looks forward to working with you to not only choose a home with the right number of bedrooms, but to find the cottage that will enhance and contribute to how you want to spend your time here on Mount Desert Island to make your stay a memorable one.
Laurie has lived on MDI for 32 years and for the past 16 years has lived in a house she and her husband built near the head of Somes Sound, that they share with their Australian Shepard.
Nicole Cardano Rental Agent
Nicole Cardano was born and raised on Mount Desert Island. She managed the family owned, Moorings Inn, for five years before joining the Summer House Cottage Rentals team. She values the importance of matching your family with the ideal rental. In addition to connecting families to their getaway in vacationland she is passionate about guiding local theatre programs and her beautiful daughter.
Mariah Provonost Rental Agent
A summer job brought Mariah to Mount Desert Island over 20 years ago. The charm and grace of the island is what kept her here.
While attending college, Mariah worked in various hospitality positions. After graduating from college, she had a career in real estate until she had her daughter in 2009 and during her time in real estate, she owned and operated a rental company catering to the needs of buyers and sellers during the transition stages of buying and selling. This experience helped build a strong foundation for working in the vacation rental business, Summer House Cottage Rentals. Helping clients find their “home away from home” and suggesting experiences of exploring the unique sights and activities in Acadia National Park and on Mount Desert Island is part of what Mariah provides for those seeking weekly or long-term rentals.
Mariah resides in Southwest Harbor where she owns her own year-round vacation rental. When she’s not working, she will be on any given trail in Acadia National Park in any kind of weather, 365 days a year.
